The social network X (formerly Twitter) has updated its platform usage rules to officially allow the dissemination of adult and graphic content.
Adult content and nudity have been present on the network for years and—unlike Facebook or Instagram—have never been explicitly prohibited, even before the acquisition by Elon Musk at the end of 2022.
The new guidelines, first reported by TechCrunch on Monday (3rd), explicitly allow users to share adult content "as long as it is produced and distributed consensually." X updated the guidelines last weekend, stating that "sexual expression, whether visual or written, can be a legitimate form of artistic expression."
According to the new policy, publishing adult content is formally within the rules, provided it is labeled and not prominently displayed, such as in profile photos or account banners.
Accounts that regularly publish this type of content must automatically mark their image and video posts as sensitive content.
